To state, to insinuate: “Eight to the
Bar” not only states its musical intent but it also
insinuates in cloth the rhythmic sounds of blues along with
reds, yellows, and greens. The statement is bold in presentation:
a red-blue eight dances side-by-side with a green-yellow eight;
black notes swing on a white background while a black ground
urges differenct instruments to blare forth. The rhythmic
insinuation plays among these statements: each color of the
dancing eights have eight shades within the same color, eight
blocks of notes along with eight blocks of musical instruments
line borders where eight prairie points interrupt the flow
of notes. Statement and insinuation play off one another.
